My name is Róisín Burke, and I am a student on the MA in Public Advocacy and Activism. I have previously been a member of Governing Authority in Mary Immaculate College as part of job as MISU President for the academic year 2021/22. I know what this role entails, and I have experience of advocating for student’s rights. I also have learnt so much more about advocacy during my time on the MA in Public Advocacy and Activism. I am familiar with the decision-making process in a third level setting. As MISU President I have experience with reviewing strategic plans and have sat on three out of the four subgroups of MIC’s Governing Authority during my time in office. Also, as part of my time in  office in MISU I successfully advocated for free period products on campus from collaboration with MIC senior management.

I have shown great leadership skills and was invited to speak about my student leadership during COVID-19 for ACUI’s (Association of College Unions International) annual conference in Chicago in 2022.

Should I be chosen I look forward to representing the postgraduate students at the University of Galway on the Governing Authority.
